203 North Amity
a great bard lived here
of a different age and space
tho we face
a similar financial disgrace
but, indeed
a noble structure
which should be honored
as a marker of our culture
this is where you strived
and finally rested
not the places
where you just merely existed
there is a spirit here
that bellows and breathes
like the large green tomato plant in the rear –
a small garden, absent of weeds
(the Edgar Allen Poe House, a block-and-a-half from where i reside. Baltimore City has cut its annual support last year.)
