Chance/Dance of Discourse

i thought i had (for Gil Scott-Heron 4/1/49 – 5/27/11)

“Did you hear what they said?
Did you hear what they said?
They said another brother’s dead
They said he’s dead, but he can’t be buried”
-Gil Scott-Heron

i thought i had
another day
to catch up with you
to see you again
to thank you
for saving my life

when at Lincoln University
in PA
you and Brian Jackson used to set up in the Student Union Bldg
and freely play

it made us feel so special
the time you took
to pass the culture
to praise study of all books

random, spontaneous song
live and not televised
an example among artists
to nurture our gifts and not compromise

this war has claimed many
and all of us have weaknesses
your words and songs are your body of work –
and within is the Spirit that never passes

whoop

“Big whoop dee muthafucken doo.”
-inga muscio

don’t need you
to validate what i do –
my time
what’s on my mind
are my own sacred truths
the options of dimensions to explore
are never too few

even in public
i have a right to be private
i have a light to be lit
i do not have to accept
the idiocy of constant madness and bullshit

don’t like what i write? –
don’t read it!

Obama Been Ladened

“And you run and you run
To catch up with the sun
But it’s sinking”
-Pink Floyd (Time)

Where must I find my resting place?
Over the hills, across the valley”
-Burning Spear (Resting Place)

“We can’t endure
We face what you can’t heal
All trust is lost”
-Salome (Master Failure)

“By the way, Bin Laden was, for many years, a friend of the US, a country that gave him military training; he was also an adversary of the USSR and Socialism. But, whatever the actions attributed to him, the assassination of an unarmed human being while surrounded by his own relatives is something abhorrent. Apparently this is what the government of the most powerful nation that has ever existed did.”
-Fidel Castro

blood hunting blood
for the bloodiest hunters
in the Solar hood

everything evil
nothing good
nothing working
as it Naturally should

kill
kill
kill
is the only
operative word

(Written two days before the killing of Osama bin Laden) – 4/29/2011

to seek glory

“love is concerned
that the beating of your heart
the beating of your heart
should harm
no one”
-Alice Walker (sent by earth)

it is no time
for celebration
or retaliation –
it is time for grieving
in every nation
to know that we
have lowered ourselves
to this much annihilation

it is never
spiritually fulfilling
to seek glory
in killing

Spiritual Cartography

“Religion is the organization of spirituality into something that became the handmaiden of conquerors. Nearly all religions were brought to people and imposed on people by conquerors and used as the framework to control their minds . . .

. . . And when you accept a picture of the deity assigned to you by another people, you become the spiritual prisoners of that other people.”
-John Henrik Clarke (A Great and Mighty Walk)

“Learning history is an ongoing and somewhat demanding relationship, requiring unconditional love and dedication. In a society that honors everything temporary and disposable – from diapers to sexual partners – the kind of commitment that history demands is not all that attractive.”
-inga muscio (“autobiography of a blue-eyed devil”)

“At its very, very, very best, U.S. history is an unimaginative and superficial saga, with a beginning, middle, and end, as told by the victors of history’s present telling.”
-inga muscio (“autobiography of a blue-eyed devil”)

“. . . How does the history of controlled movement manifest in your life today, and how do members of your family and community deal with this?”
-inga muscio (“autobiography of a blue-eyed devil”)

it may be in a small whirlwind
of blowing leaves
or the coolness felt
by a random breeze –
these are the ways
Earth Mother speaks –
simplistic insights
of eternal complexities

oh humble cartographer
of cosmic signs
continue to joyfully gaze
upon mystic blueprints and infinite designs

each breath
is a teachable moment
each death
is a collective life-imprint

only cowards
and innocent children
are led blindly
by brutal and oppressive systems

womb-men, men
stand for your life’s meaning
stand for your wisdom
stand for your knowledge and being

remember, tribal supremacy
is a company, an industry
propped up on the profitability
of everyone else’s misery

stop paying, praying,
and playing into the hands
of doom-makers who greedily consume
all wealth, resources, and lands

no one can ever be free
or happy
under the constant burdens
of fear and poverty

map your way
out of this heathen cave
venture into the night of your mind
to discover an ever radiant new day
